1 May, 2024: I Submitted Free Drifter to a Publisher

Writer's picture: Zara DayZara Day

A few days ago, I submitted my finished manuscript to Olympia Publishers, an independent publishing house that allowed me to submit it directly. I've tried getting a publishing agent, but it seems like a real uphill battle. I'm hoping to hear back from Olympia soon. I could drop the book on Amazon like my last two books, but I'm concerned it will have as little success if I do that. I'd rather shop this book around and get a publisher to give me a chance than just put this out on a website that makes it impossible to take books off once there. I do have the book available for printing on another site called Book Patch. If you are interested in reading it, it's available for purchase.

Once the book has a publisher, the listing will be removed.

Meanwhile, I'm stopping and going with this sequel to Neapolitan, Columbian Scheme. It is about 20-25% done. I should take a weekend and power through as much as I can. I've let the story cook more than when I started it last year, and it is a lot more developed, but I'm concerned the mystery aspect of it is not quite there. The personal story with N and Michele is completely solid, and that won't take long at all to write, but these stories are supposed to be gripping mystery/crime stories, too.

I am 60% done with the capstone of the series. Once I have Columbian done, I can knock out the rest of that book in no time. It's at the point that I could publish it before Deja Vu, which I have one chapter done on, and the rest of the story is still cooking in early development. I don't want to publish Columbian and Frankfurter back to back because I want to see if I can get buzz around Columbian and the series before releasing the capstone. Ideally, people should sit on Neapolitan for a while before Columbian, but I also don't want to avoid publishing a book because I'm not famous yet. Additionally, I don't want to pigeonhole myself to that writing style. It's not one I'm good at, and it doesn't spark the joy that fantastical fiction does for me.

Regardless, this is a new feature of the website I'm trying. I am still determining how often I will update it. For the time being, the first of the month sounds right. If you want to follow it, that would be cool. I have no plans to remove posts or edit them after posting. If that does happen, I will leave what I can of the post up and add a note explaining why something got extracted. That way, I'm being transparent.

Sincerely,

Zara J Day
